Defamation, libel, and joys of truth.

As much as we've enjoyed the delightful comments...

"die"

"you're all a bunch of rich white motherfuckers"
"fuck this snitchy bullshit classist you douche"
"you're a dirty pathetic snitch"
"please consider dropping out of life"

and satirical threats..
"If you go out in the woods today You'd better go in disguise."
"snitches get stitches"

comments like this make us worry that some people may be getting their tummies tied in a knot because of some misunderstands about the law.

"you guys are total fascists for doing this. people deserve a voice. i will keep spaming this until you take is down. you are vioolating a persons right to confidentiallty. i am disgusted by your behaviour. take this website down. annonymous will hack this shit for me."

Don't worry, we're here to help!

What is defamation?
Defamation is communication about a person that tends to hurt the person's reputation

What is libel?
Libel is the type of defamation with a permanent record, like a newspaper, a letter, a website posting, an email, a picture, or a radio or TV broadcast.

Citation:Prud'homme v. Prud'homme, 2002 SCC 85, [2002] 4 S.C.R. 663
Date:December 20, 2002
"An action in defamation involves two fundamental values: freedom of expression and the right to reputation.  While elected municipal officials may be quite free to discuss matters of public interest, they must act as would the reasonable person.  The reasonableness of their conduct will often be demonstrated by their good faith and the prior checking they did to satisfy themselves as to the truth of their allegations."
" Accordingly, in Quebec civil law, communicating false information is not necessarily a wrongful act.  On the other hand, conveying true information may sometimes be a wrongful act.  This is an important difference between the civil law and the common law, in which the falsity of the things said is an element of the tort of defamation.  However, even in the civil law, the truth of what is said may be a way of proving that no wrongful act was committed, in circumstances in which the public interest is in issue (see the comments by Vallières, supra, at p. 10, cited with approval by the Quebec Court of Appeal in Radio Sept‑Îles, supra, at p. 1819)."

You see folks to our knowledge the entire content of this blog is true in a very satirical sense. To our knowledge it is not actually illegal to utter truths. Should anyone find a legitimate evidence or legal justification that indicates this private publication which you are snooping about has violated the laws of Canada or Quebec, please let us know and we will happily take it down.
